Lucas Paqueta was still suspended, with Davide Calabria, Mattia Caldara, Ivan Strinic and Jack Bonaventura injured, so Ignazio Abate made his final appearance in a Milan jersey. SPAL missed Dias Felipe, Vasco Regini, Lorenzo Dickmann, Pasquale Schiattarella and Alberto Paloschi, but started their strongest available XI.
