Milan sent Inter spiralling into a crisis with a thumping 3-0 Derby della Madonnina win, but Mauro Icardi missed a penalty.
The Rossoneri were lower down the standings, but on better recent form than their cousins, as Inter had dropped from first to fourth place in under a month and were hammered 3-0 midweek by Juventus in the Coppa Italia. Mauro Icardi was surprisingly dropped and Jonathan Biabiany ill with flu, but new buy Eder was thrown straight into the starting XI just two days after his transfer from Sampdoria. Milan missed Luiz Adriano and Philippe Mexes, while Mario Balotelli and Kevin-Prince Boateng were not fit enough to start.
