Ronaldinho seeks guarantees from AC Milan 28.7 || webmaster
Source: Football Italia
Ronaldinho will only stay at Milan beyond 2011 if they can offer him guarantees that they will challenge for major honours, according to Il Corriere dello Sport. The Brazilian’s contract expires at the end of next season, leading to speculation about his future amid interest from Flamengo and the LA Galaxy. Ronaldinho’s brother Roberto de Assis, who also acts as his agent, met with Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani on Monday evening to discuss business. Il Corriere understands that he confirmed Ronaldinho intends to see out the remainder of his contract at San Siro. De Assis also explained that Ronaldinho would be prepared to take a pay cut in order to prolong his stay at Milan. The Rossoneri recently implemented a wage ceiling whereby any player can’t receive more than €4m after tax a season. Ronaldinho currently earns double that figure, but he is apparently quite willing to see his annual salary drop to around €6m and Galliani is happy to oblige. The crux of the matter, though, revolves around Milan’s long-term ambition. Ronaldinho apparently wants assurances that the Rossoneri will keep challenging for major honours. Milan have scaled back their transfer expenditure in the last two years leading to fears that they will no longer be competitive. If Galliani presents Ronaldinho with a convincing project, it’s likely he will extend his contract until 2014.
