Pato back in the Brazil squad 27.7 || webmaster
Source: Football Italia
Milan striker Alexandre Pato has been called up to Mano Menezes’ Brazil squad after missing out on the World Cup in South Africa earlier this summer. The 20-year-old didn’t enjoy the best of relationships with Menezes’ predecessor Dunga and reportedly argued with him at the Beijing Olympics two years ago. Since then his appearances for Brazil have been few and far between, but Menezes’ appointment represents the dawn of a new era for the Selecao. Brazil are due to face the United States in a friendly match, which will be held in East Rutherford, New Jersey on August 10. Pato’s Milan team-mate Thiago Silva was also called up, although there was still no place for Ronaldinho. A number of Serie A’s Brazilian contingent weren’t included such as Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Doni, Juan, Julio Baptista and Felipe Melo. “There are no restrictions,” Menezes said. “We don’t have to call up a player just because he plays in Europe. But when one does well, it’s difficult for them to stay in Brazil.”
