Gianluca Zambrotta says he had no doubts about signing a new contract with Italian giants Milan last week.
“I’m really happy with the renewal otherwise I wouldn’t have signed,” he stated.
“I felt the belief of the club and Vice-President Adriano Galliani in me so I put pen to paper straight away.”
Zambrotta’s previous deal was set to expire in 2011, but he’s now agreed to stay for a season longer while accepting a reduced wage.
The former Juventus player also spoke about the national side after Italy’s disastrous showing at World Cup 2010.
“Sometimes you need these negative experiences to move forward,” continued the 33-year-old Azzurri full-back.
“We certainly didn’t give a good account of ourselves but in football, as in life, these things help you to improve.”
Zambrotta is still available for his country but it is unclear whether new boss Cesare Prandelli will keep faith with the veteran.
