Milan kept themselves in the race for a top four finish with Hakan Calhanoglu’s glancing header, but sent Fiorentina to a fifth straight defeat.

The pressure was on the Rossoneri, as Atalanta beat Genoa 2-1 earlier this afternoon, so a win was needed to stay within three points of the Champions League spots. Lucas Paqueta started his three-match ban for slapping the referee’s hand away, while Lucas Biglia, Davide Calabria, Mattia Caldara, Ivan Strinic and Jack Bonaventura were injured. Alessio Romagnoli returned from suspension and Tiemoue Bakayoko started, as he was ‘forgiven’ after a touchline row with Gennaro Gattuso.

A.C. Milan: The Team Making a Lot of News Lately
5.5 || webmaster

Associazione Calcio(A.C.) Milan has been facing the music for quite some time and issues grappling the European Football Superpower have been making news every now and then.

Firstly, a big issue that is troubling AC Milan is Leonardo’s future in the club. Elliott and Gazidis are planning to reorganize the club and according to some authentic Italian sources they have already selected a potential new director of football.

Lyon's Lucas Campos appointment as the possible director of the Rossoneri is on the cards. Campos has already played a role in connection with a move to Roma but now the Giallorossi seem to be close to hiring Torino's Gianluca Petrachi.

Lyon would leave no stone unturned to stop Campos from leaving but chances are Elliott could make the French club do so. The American investment fund had saved Lyon from bankruptcy via an investment of € 117 million and it might happen that Jean-Michel Aulas be convinced to let his man take a place for Milan. This would leave Leonardo’s future in troubled waters.

Secondly, very recently, AC Milan also fined Tiemoue Bakayoko as punishment for being an hour late to the training. It was reported that the defense put forth by Bakayoko’s was not convincing enough for the club. He claimed that he ran out of fuel on his way to the training. This also raised the doubts of the club with regards to Frenchman for quite some time.

The issue of Francesco Acerbi followed by Bakayoko’s involvement have led the club officials to adopt separate sets of disbelief. As a result, the club is refraining from the highly anticipated signing for this summer.

A previous spate of debates

After UEFA declined to make a settlement agreement with AC Milan, the fate of Rossoneri hangs in balance. UEFA has already issued punitive measures against Milan to assert their rights. It could either scale down the number of players Milan is allowed to register in the Europa League or could disallow them to register the players signed over in summer.

There have also been debates regarding sports betting; however, the likelihood of a ban is something which is beyond the power of UEFA and only FIFA is capable of carrying out the action. As we already know, Milan had plans to bring in 3-4 players this summer. They had kept Reina and Strinic on free transfers, the San Siro side would also like to strengthen their team in two, if not three more positions.

Milan was zeroing in on making a 20-goal striker for Gattuso, as this term showed that are goalscorer is lacking. The decision proved fruitful also as 20-year old 20-year-old Patrick Cutrone bagged 18 goals and became the Rossoneri's top goalscorer of the season.

The San Siro’s budget would render a big blow if UEFA decided to keep them from playing in the Europa League. AC Milan had got AC Milan received around €6-8m for San Siro’s their participation in the cup while cashing in over €10m on ticket sales.

There is another issue of Rossoneri's fourth signing will be a midfielder or a winger. The balance tilts in favor of Fiorentina's Milan Badelj who could be signed a winger to get a free transfer for the midfield. Another possibility is to rope in Napoli's Alberto Grassi who would be available for around €7m.

In the past, Milan has had nexus with wingers like Callejon and Politano. Per contra, Callejon has never played on the left side of the pitch. While Callejon has a release clause valued at €20m, Politano could be signed for a fee of €25-30m. The Sassuolo winger, Politano, can play on both sides.

Torino won the crunch match with Milan – their first Serie A victory against them since 2001 – to leapfrog the Rossoneri and push them down to sixth.
