Milan are reportedly in advanced talks with Franck Kessie over a new contract at San Siro, hoping to tie the midfielder down until June 2024.

Kessie arrived on a two-year loan from Atalanta in July 2017 before moving on a permanent deal in July 2019.

Former coach Arrigo Sacchi said Milan can win the Scudetto under Stefano Pioli and said Zlatan Ibrahimovic shouldn’t ‘demand too much’ from the youngsters.

The 21-year-old former Anderlecht player was called up for the three games against Switzerland, England and Denmark, but the Red Devils announced he has returned to Italy.

Romagnoli suffers hip injury

Milan defender Alessio Romagnoli injured his hip during the warm-up ahead of the match against Hellas Verona on Sunday.

The centre-back had been called up by Italy CT Roberto Mancini for this month’s matches against Estonia, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but has been replaced by Alessandro Bastoni of Inter.

Milan fought back from 2-0 down to hold Hellas Verona 2-2 in an extraordinary match, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic missed a penalty, hit the woodwork, then scored the stoppage-time equaliser.

The Rossoneri could go four points clear at the top of the table with a victory, but were coming off Thursday’s 3-0 Europa League loss to Lille, their first defeat since March. Alessio Romagnoli pulled out in the warm-up with a muscular problem, so Matteo Gabbia stepped in.
